James Blake Headlines 2015 Charity Exhibition
The Landfall Foundation was pleased to have American tennis superstar James Blake headline this year’s Legends of Tennis charity exhibition event hosted at the Country Club of Landfall’s Drysdale Sports Center complex. Proceeds from Legends of Tennis will go directly the Landfall Foundation’s grants programs to assist in awarding grants to local non-profits from the greater Wilmington area.
James Riley Blake is known for his speed and powerful, flat forehand. During his career, Blake had amassed 24 singles finals appearances (10–14 record), while his career-high singles ranking was World No. 4. His career highlights included reaching the final of the 2006 Tennis Masters Cup, the semifinals of the Beijing Olympics and the quarterfinals of the Australian Open (2008) and US Open (2005, 2006), as well as being the former American No. 1. His two titles for the United States at the Hopman Cup are an event record. Blake was a key performer for the United States 2007 Davis Cup championship team, going 2–0 in the championship tie vs. Russia at second singles.
Joining Blake are returning players: Australian, Rennae Stubbs who won four Grand Slam doubles titles and over 60 WTA doubles tour titles, Jimmy Arias, once ranked as high as No. 5 in the world, Bobby Reynolds who finished No. 1 in national singles rankings in 2003, Luke Jensen who won the French Open doubles title, and Mikael Pernfors of Sweden who played in the French Open and Davis Cup finals.
Legends play will include singles, doubles, and mixed doubles.
Landfall Foundation - Celebrating 20 Years of Giving
The Landfall Foundation has taken ownership of the Legends of Tennis and has added this celebrity tennis exhibition fundraiser to its slate of annual charitable events. “The foundation is excited to bring Legends of Tennis under its umbrella,” said Landfall Foundation Chairman, Bill Hamlet. “Legends aligns perfectly with the foundation’s goals and mission and provides a great opportunity to help grow the foundation’s giving throughout the community to generate even more funds for local non-profits.”
Landfall Foundation Legends of Tennis will now be operated through the foundation’s Board of Directors in partnership with the Country Club of Landfall’s tennis staff and club members who will complete the organizing committee.
Comprised of Landfall residents, the Landfall Foundation’s mission is to provide funds to local non-profit organizations that provide support for the Arts, Education, and Health and Welfare in the greater Wilmington area. To date, the foundation has donated more than $3 million dollars through grants locally in the last twenty years. Each year, along with individual donations, the foundation holds fundraising events such as the annual Gala, Art Show, Holiday Marketplace, Quintiles Marathon, and Legends of Tennis.
